Not really from this world.Tokio hotel or: how the twins Bill and Tom Kaulitz with two other musicians make there dream come true.

Two boys, 13 years old, twins, they only want one thing: Make music and become famous. Ever since they were little kids. Now they are going to the seventh class, for the first time without the other, because the teachers say: “You can’t teach them anything when they are together.”
The two work hard, like they have constant adrenaline. Maybe there teachers demanded it. 24 Kilometre is it from there town Loitsche to Magdeburg.
There mother or stepfather, a local Rocker, drive them from home to the clubs with the little stages, on which they will play, Bill and Tom. With there mates Georg and Gustav, who they have met after a concert last year.
“Awesome! They play it again!”Bill is the singer. He sings in German, while his seventh grade English wasn’t good enough for songs. A boy, really slim, with female features. They play in front of twenty bystanders of the same age, sometimes there are thirty, mostly girls. It is the end of 2003. A jury is presenting the show of the year: “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”. The four boys in Magdeburgs aren’t superstars, not yet. But they believe that some day someone will come, that will help them on the way up. A producer.
It is 3 March, 2008. In Brussels starts the Europe tour of one of Germany’s most successful bands of all time. Since a few weeks the 8.000 tickets for the Forest National Hall in Brussels are sold out. Now the tickets have spread among 8.000 girls between nine and fifteen. For sure, being there for the first time live, this is a dream come true for the boys that is finally becoming true.
Then the bad news: Bill has problems with his voice, he has to get surgery in the hospital. The tour is cancelled. Now is clear: Bill will sing again and the tour through Europe will continue in the spring.
The new hymn of the teensThe four have made it. There dream has come true, cause in June of the year 2005 a producer really is among the listening audience and is searching for the potential, a potential that lies within them. Especially in the twins and even more in the singer: Bill.
The ninth class was finally over and after the holidays the boys couldn’t return to there old school anymore. Cause during the last seven weeks the German radio has played “durch den monsun” thousands of time, the new hymn for the nine to 15 year old girls in the country.
Viva playes the song every hour, when Bill and Tom were at home in front of the tv watching, they just exploded and constantly said: “Awesome! Awesome! Just look at that. They are playing it again.”
MTV has made interviews with them. And the Bravo, the centre of the teen universe, is putting the boys on the third issue. Because of the boys the magazine was climbing up again in sales.
Bill is unravelling. Now screams from behind: a preview from what will happen in a moment. He shortly looks at Tom, puts his arms in the air, laughs and shakes his head, Still, even three years after the quick rise, Bill still can’t believe it: “That all those people are there just for us. That is a feeling, that gets to you,” he often tells in interviews.
Incredible screams in BrusselsAlso here, one minute before there first performance of there five week tour, in which they will play 26 concerts, it was completely sold out within a few hours. Just two more times Bill jumps up and down, he takes a deep breath. He makes a big smile, but Tom ain’t, since 8.000 girls are waiting there outside and only want on thing: Tokio hotel. And more clearly: them.
He jumps on the giant stage, raises his arm in the air und opens his eyes wide. A scream is coming is way from the arena, one that isn’t loud or really loud, but: incredible. And some girls already collapse within the first few minutes of the concert.
Waiting ten hours or even camping outside for two days has unloaded itself in one moment. The world is now only Bill. David Jost, manager o the band and also the big brother for the boys tells about him: “a front man like Bill you only find, if you even find them, once every few years.”
Tokio hotel – a phenomenon. More then two million cd’s sold, and last year overwhelmed with every prize there is to win: Echo, Bambi, European music award, World music award. Maybe the fact that this is a young band that wasn’t thrown together by some castingshow appeals. With an own face: gone from club to club for the last three years, played on little village festivals, were they often were treated like baby’s and being mocked.
Just a big marketing machine? The lyrics of Tokio hotel tell the stories of pain, of unemployment and anxiety for separation. Not good mood pop, but real love declarations, the real life. The critics quickly came to the conclusion that this group with there, 18, 19 and 20 year old members is just one big marketing machine. What do these little boys know about the truth of life?
For sure the twins can talk about pain over a break up: There parents split up when they were just kids. And then there is this special gift from Bill, to be able to go with his emotions and let himself go in it.
Manager Jost tells about him, a little bit about what he thinks: “Sometimes Bill stands in front of you and his load is just to heavy, and from one moment to the other he starts shining, like the sun has come through.”
Cult figure BillThis boy, with his 1,83 meter and just 56 kilo, his long hair defining all gravity poiting to the sky and his dark eyes. With his strong mind and his focus, for Tokio Hotel “the goal is, becoming a cult figure,” like the Stern wrote.
Now he is standing here in Brussels, next to him Tom on guitar, Georg on bass and Gustav behind drums. Beneath him the audience screams and cries. And Bill sings like he is possessed: “Achtig, fertig, los und lauf, vor uns bricht der himmel auf. Wir schaffen es zusammen übers ende der welt, die hiner uns zerfällt.” They believe him in this moment.
After there performace presenter Thomas Gottschalk, half happy, half serious: “Maybe you will even become the new Rolling Stones”. The boys are just sitting them and can’t stop laughing. Maybe they think: and even when not, then we will still make it a damn good time. In one of there songs they sing: “Leb die sekunde, hier und jetzt, halt sie fest. Sonst is sie weg.”
